About the Branch

The Boyle River Branch covers the Boyle River from Boyle Harbour through Lough Key to Hartley. This stretch of the Upper Shannon can be cruised at a leisurely pace from Carrick-on-Shannon in about 2 hours through some of the most scenic waters in the country.  The cruise takes you through Drumharlow Lake to the village of Cootehall and on to Clarendon Lock at Knockvicar. From there, cruise across Lough Key with its breathtaking views to the beautiful new marina at Lough Key Forest Park with great attractions for both adults and children alike.

Take a stroll through the bog gardens, a tree top walk, climb the viewing tower or , for the more adventurous, try the Zipit. Don’t forget to stop for a coffee or snack in the visitor centre. For a delicious evening meal check out The Moorings Bar and Restaurant Knockvicar.

Continue your cruise to spend a night or two in Boyle Harbour and take the opportunity to visit the town of Boyle for a visit to King House, shop at the farmers market on a Saturday morning or for a meal or a drink in one of the many bars and restaurants. Use of the marina facilities at Lough Key Marina and Boyle Harbour requires a Waterways Ireland card.
