The Lough Derg branch was founded in 1970 as part of the national network of regional based branches of The Inland Waterways Association of Ireland – itself founded in 1954.
The voluntary body of inland waterways enthusiasts advocate the use, maintenance, protection, restoration and improvement of the inland waterways of Ireland.
Our branch’s region covers the waterways from Victoria Lock at Meelick to the Sea Lock at Sarsfield Bridge, Limerick.
We organise and engage in a wide range of water and land based activities throughout the year, in order to achieve our goals for the navigation, flora and fauna, heritage, training and development of the inland waterways.
We have members from afar afield as Cork and Dublin (and even one couple from Germany).
An active branch, we organise many Cruise In Company events throughout the year.
We have members with all types of boats – and even some without boats and are very ‘family orientated’ welcoming suggestions for activities from everyone.
