Inland Waterways of Ireland Users Group / Mail List

It is my understanding that the email service which currently complements the IWAI web-based Discussion Forum will be terminated later this evening.

To facilitate those who previously used this service I have created a Yahoo Group called Inland Waterways of Ireland Users Group (IWIUG) which is intended to be a discussion forum for users of the Inland Waterways of Ireland.

This forum will provide service via email; web or daily digest.

There will be a single forum with such threads/topics as users create.

New users may join the group using email by sending an email to the following address:
IWIUG-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk

Alternatively, advocates of the web/internet may join the group at the following web address:
[uk.groups.yahoo.com]

Web/internet users should remember to specify that they do NOT wish to receive messages via individual email, i.e. select no email

Digest afficionados can select 'daily digest' as the preferred option for receiving messages

N.B. Using the web-based option will require you to have an existing, or create a new, Yahoo ID...this only takes a few seconds!

The IWIUG forum offers the following member services: discussions, archive. links, photos, calendar, polls and live chat...amongst others.

Once you have joined you can post messages to the Group by sending an email to:
IWIUG@yahoogroups.co.uk
or
By logging onto the website and using the message option to post new messages and read existing messages.

As with the current IWAI service, messages / emails are distributed to all email and digest subscribers. Web users view messages online at the IWIUG website.

At any time you can unsubscribe from the group by sending a message to:

IWIUG-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk

If you have any queries I can be contacted at paulscan@iol.ie

Apologies for the lack of bells and whistles at this time. This was all done in a hurry to meet the cut-off time being applied to the IWAI email service.

I hope that if nothing else this provides a forum for like-minded individuals who might otherwise feel disenfranchised, to continue to engage in discussions on topics related to that which we all love: The Inland Waterways of Ireland

Re: Inland Waterways of Ireland Users Group / Mail List

It has been my experience, ever since I first started boating, that a significant segment of IWAI members has engaged in coastal excursions of one form or another at some time or other. Be it a trip to Limerick, Foynes, Kilrush or further afield, many IWAI members have participated in and enjoyed such trips. I am unfamiliar with any 'Bull***t about costal excursions, or the open waters' having been reported on this or any other forum. And I, and I suspect that I reflect the views of many other subscribers to this forum, have enjoyed the colourful reports of those who have participated in such activities. And yes, I have made my own modest contributions in respect of "Arthur's" coastal cruising exploits ever since I first embarked on this most enjoyable cruising activity. And it was because of the reports and encouragement from others on this forum that I felt the urge to give it a try. "Arthur" and her crew now look forward, each year, to an annual sally to the salty....it is like taking an annual summer holiday from the primary home comforts of the Inland waterways... :)

The popularity of posts/messages on the IWAI Forum related to such activities is clearly evidenced by the number of Posts', and in particular by the number of 'Views', linked to such threads.

In my opinion, the expression of your views in such tones is uncalled for and is disrespectful of the contributions of others. It might well be that you have little interest in such topics, in which case you can simply move on to the next topic.

As for the IWIUG, I can simply re-iterate what is stated in the first post in this thread, i.e. that it was established to provide a service that the IWAI no longer caters for, i.e. mailing list and daily digest (in addition to a web-based service) subscription to a forum to facilitate those who previously used this (IWAI) service ... which is intended to be a discussion forum for users of the Inland Waterways of Ireland.

It was not created as an opposition to the IWAI Forum and indeed many members of IWIUG also subscribe to the IWAI Forum.

And discussion of any water or boating related topic enjoyed by its members will be welcomed on the IWIUG Forum, including reports of coastal cruising/excursions.

Paul J Scannell
"Arthur"
and
Founder of IWIUG

Quote:
martin hyland
Great to have a forum for inland boaters to discuss inland waterways topics.
No more Bull***t about costal excursions, or the open waters.
M.
