She is a thing of beauty, As far as I know she was built by a farther and son team, true crafts men who built by eye but I am sure Austin will fill you in.
Quote: thanks for your kind words...ralf T15 is a Gunning/Tremlett 15', we bought her as a bare stage 1 hull in 1973 from Tremletts, the hull is 3 layer x 3mm mahogany hot moulded vacuum pressed, we then cold moulded the deck ( 3 > 4mm mahogany outer skin onto 3mm birch plywood inner skin ) & cold moulded the transom & outboard well in plywood, both being curved....not an easy job... then completed the rest of the fit-out, the engine is a Merc 500 50hp 1976 which we also have had from new & is still running with its original spark plugs & prop, in ski trim & one up we were timed at Windermere at 42.1mph.......T15 was the second Tremlett that we fitted out, the first was in 1971/2, which was fitted out similar but lighter, as a Class 3A 14' raceboat & also raced as a ET circuit boat, fitted with a Merc 500 50hp ( redband ), in full offshore race trim 2 up her speed was around 44mph & as a ET single seater the speed was 47ish mph, T14 was the first raceboat in Ireland to be fitted with tufnol reed valves, another long story over a few.... ![]() attached is a pic of T14 in 1972 race No 53, also attached is the famous Stapley/Tremlett Pa Rug race No 66 in the IoM race mid/late 60's, this is the pic that inspired us to buy Tremlett hull to fit out. Quote: thanks fergal for ur kind words........father & sons ( brother & I ) , dad would say " if it looks right, it is right" no plans used for any of them !!! attached, our first speedboat which we built in ply clinker on oak ribs, pic date 8th July 1968, hull shape copied from the Tremlett cross sections, around 1969/70 we re-decked it & raced of a season while T14 was being built.( dad & brother in boat, me take the pic..I started young........ )Edited 1 time(s). Great story Austin and what memories you must have built along with the boat, My story is a bit different as I started to build mine as therapy when my dad died at the same time I had to give up work to be a full time carer for my son, so to keep the mind going I started to build just outside the back door so I could still keep an eye on things. My dad loved boats and it was about the only thing I had in common with him, we were never very close till a few months before he died,he was getting a bit older and finding it hard to do the work on the boat so for the first time in his life he asked for my help and I was only to happy to give it my best shot and try and prove myself, the last few months we spent more time together than we did our hole life and had great fun. The day he died I was just finishing off the boat with him and this is the last log in his book he died 2 hours later from a fall off a ladder while cleaning seagull @#$%& off the windows "bloody seagulls" I called my boat Sean-nós after my dad Sean and the meaning "old style" suited the boat She is a Glen-l malahini with a 50 hp merc blue band that I built up to look like the older style. Here is a little video you may have seen it before but I think a lot of you may relate to it. [www.youtube.com]
