While I agree with your opinion as to the content of the thread, I'm baffled as to why you bother to read it!
I only paid attention to your post on this topic because... well, I expected something worth reading, if I'm honest!
However, in the event, I was surprised and disappointed!
Don't mind him, all you inhabitants of the flat and boring bits. Feel free to post all you like, for the rest of us to ignore:-D

Eek That's perhaps a little unkind. Personally I thought it was fun; the 'banter' between the sailing and non-sailing dergies. The forum has many types of content, from technical advice and info, through debate on hot issues (and some not so hot issues), cruising blogs, announcements, social networking, photo blogs, question/requests for advice and help, gentle banter and fun posts, etc. The beauty of the web forum is one only reads what one is interested in (no delete inbox contents required as was case with the old email platform). It's so easy to skip matter.

Hi Tom.
I started the thread back in Jan to encourage Derg boaters to get out on the water - and spoof a bit about sailing vs. motor boating.
Now that Derg is so busy again, the thread has probably run its course. I never expected that it would last this long.

Maybe Derg Branch will consider your other suggestion?

I love this old thread and the bit of crack that keeps it going. Was in very good company this weekend, including said Bock. The pictures show that narrow channels were traversed and secret places explored.
All will be revealed ,to real boaters. Suffice it to say ,we were far from noisy drunks and brain numbing generators running all night.
I feel very privileged .

Well, we had a lovely 5 days on Lough Derg, from Thursday to today. Cheetah only left Mountshannon today, and that was only for a few hours, down to Holy Island for a walk and lunch.
But we saw James and Mary come in on Thursday (or was it Friday). Met old friends, the Coote family, who were there for the Shannon 1's racing. Saw the Lefroys and Phoenix, who acted as race officers and committee boat many times for our catamaran events.
Ate in the Hotel and Cupán Café. Chatted around the fire in the sailing club in great company.
Overall a great weekend.

Mister Bailey, Looking down the list of threads, I find that most of then do not involve me - my mast will not let me get past Killaloe to the south and Banagher to the north. I read a lot of them and find them interesting. Most of them are about real people on the waterways and not boring.

Pretty much everyone reading the thread has been boating recently and the civility of the responses is evidence as to the therapeutic nature of the activity.
I wonder has Tom been boating lately???
I do feel the post was out of character...
Personally, I rarely pay much attention to this thread, since it mostly involves sailing (eurgh!), Derg (yawn!), or submarines (what???), but I do read everything that arrives in my inbox and my attention will sometimes be grabbed by a familiar name, or a joke, or poem that I would be sorry to have missed.
I regard it as something like a genial, open conversation at the bar, which I can hear, but have usually no interest in, though am welcome to join if it strays into a field I am interested in! As such, I would be sad to see it go simply because a fellow patron of the bar preferred silence to conversation!
So keep it up, guys.
What earthly inconvenience can it possibly be causing?

I visit the forum online - nothing comes into my inbox, apart from the occasional PM. I check the forum when I want to. If I did not click on the IWAI Forum in my "Most visited" list, I would have no contact with it. I choose my time and do not have to look at posts that do not interest me, although to be honest, I look at most. (as Duncan says "my attention will sometimes be grabbed by a familiar name, or a joke, or poem that I would be sorry to have missed.")

Having spent a week on land it feels good to be back on the water, slack winds, clear skies, flat waters all perfect for the weekenders and the odd sailer.The electrisity points at Mountshannon are proving very popular, it amazing where you can fit a barge when you have an incentive

I am still on the lookout for that fair weather sailor on the vessel called breakyourback or breaksomething I have the lifting frame fitted and need advice on ropes, sticks and pullies if you find him lurking in the shallows please send him over to the Clare side

Despite Donal's reference to slack winds, it was quite breezy today on Derg.
Had great sail from LDYC to Gortmore Pt. in gusty E winds 15-25 knots
Had thought of tying up in Terryglass for lunch but decided to head back as the clouds were growing darker and I'm out of practice sailing in the rain.
In fact the rain held off till we rounded Urra Pt. An exhilarating fast beam/broad reach got us home in not much over an hour and a half.

I'm starting to enjoy this sailing lark.

This rugby thing is really a drag. Why can't we lose matches and get to go sailing like the rest of you

Rugbys a great game. Pippas a**e is a great a**e, it has its own facebook page n all. It was windy today so probably great sailing weather, it'll possibly be wet tomorrow on Derg, but more of the current Med weather up north for another fortnight anyway. But keep a close eye on the US weather. Currently very bad in the mid west and up into Maine and New England, we tend to get that a week or so later.
