Folks,

This thread is reserved for people to post information about lost, stolen or found items (related to our waterways).
Please, this thread is ONLY for the details of the theft/loss. Please comment on a separate thread if you wish to. Any comments received on this thread will be moved to a separate thread!
If you're not a member of the IWAI forum or mailing list, simply send an email to lostorfound[AT]iwai.ie The "subject" line should contain the salient details of the item - please supply item details, photo if available and your contact details.

Michael

(We'd previously set up a dedicated forum, but thankfully the volume of thefts etc. does not warrant that. Its also easier to see all of the items in a single thread.)

A 20hp Honda short shaft engine was stolen from "Kelly", a boat moored at Shannon Harbour between 15/06/11 and 18/06/11. Serial Number is BAJM1002985.
The engine securing bolts were welded to prevent them being removed and the thieves cut the bolts and all the control cabling and wiring. So as well as replacing the engine, the owners are faced with re-doing all that as well.

The engine was seen last wednesday and the theft was discovered over the
weekend.

The Gardai have been informed.

So if anyone is offered a Honda 20, check back with us to see if it's
missing motor.

Best Wishes,

Colin Becker

A small Zodiac Dinghy similar to the one in the attached photo was lost from the Ballinderry shore of Lough Derg in February of this year. It is believed that it blew across the lake in a stiff breeze and may have ended up somewhere between Rossmore and Clondavaun Bay. It is grey in colour with a hard floor and the seat and oars were not fitted at the time. If anyone has come across same PM colin_becker[ag]iwai.ie

Small white fibreglass dinghy missing from Athlone centre today 5th July 2011 (or overnight). Name 'Le Mac An Rí' was written on it, The centre-seat is painted black, and less obviously there is a black trim on the inside top. There are also bits of rubber rubbing screwed in to the outside, maybe 3 inches at the bow, a few inches on one side, but 2 or three feet on the other side. It has a very long gold-coloured chain going through a very poorly-made hole in the top of the bow, and two padlocks (none of which were locked last night!!) The only other possibility is that it came loose coming from Shannonbridge to Athlone 4/7/11, but tha seems unlikely. Call/text Paul 087-668 7148

Update on dinghy taken Monday night from Athlone centre. There was a cabin break-in on a cruiser moored outside of Sid Shine's Fox also on Monday night. Apparantly last year an open boat was stolen, hidden in the reeds near the railway bridge (Leinster side) and then used at night to get at other boats (Peter Forbes was awoken with them trying to get his oatboard.) So, they might be using my stolen dinghy at night to break-in to boats at the marinas where there is security from land. Anyone hear anything let me know as might be able to piece things together Paul 087-668-7148 (Recap small white fibreglass dinghy with black seat and long golden coloured chain name ' le Mac an Rí) stolen Monday 5th July Athlone docks).

attached a photo of the boat that was removed/stolen from it's mooring at Fethard on Sea we think between 11pm on 25th. July and 1.00am 26th.July.

Details are:

Sea Nymph 12K. Aluminium 12' boat.

It had lengths of foam pipe lagging attached to the Starboard gunwale and bow. This was tied on with lengths of cord through a series of small holes high under the gunwale and at both sides of the bow. It also had some carpet bolted to the Starboard quarter.

In the boat at the time was a Danfort anchor attached to approx 6 fathom of green rope.

Also stolen from this boat, while on mooring, between 12th and 13th June a Yamaha outboard motor 3.5hp. Serial number 642S032284.

Not so Happy Daze
18 August, 2011 21:30
Hello,

I am looking for the whereabouts of a Norman 20 called Happy Daze. It was moored in Garrykennedy, near Nenagh, Tipperary. During that bad weather, the boat had sunk and was making preparations to recover it.
However, it appears that someone got there before me.

The boat was registered with the IWAI with number 6121. It was equipped with 2 outboard engines, a 40hp Suzuki and 5hp Honda.

Whilst I appreciate that the boat was submerged for sometime, I had not abandoned it, and was trying to get together the money together for recovery.

Any information on Happy Daze would be very welcome.

Attached are 2 "before and after" photos.

Many Thanks,
James.

Sorry to hear about your predicament James. The boat would have been registered with WI (Waterways Ireland) rather than IWAI. Suggest you contact both WI and Tipperary county council, either of whom may have lifted her. Hope you get sorted.
