Free online classic yacht mag Posted by fergal butler
I still have a scar on my head from where I stood a little too high when travelling along their testing tank at Cowes. Saro Terrapin, riveted metal, well over 25 years old....I name this ship 112 Lite, possibly better than The Millicent.....LOL Well done Joe, a right little gem and another little bit of heriatge rescued. It looks like it already has the makings of an interesting "history". Should be a good practice run for Ben to prepare him for raising The Longford, The Spencer's and The Titanic. We all dreamed once....!! M(W&W)F Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 20/02/2012 14:34 by Mick Farrell.
Thanks again guys, a pic below of the cute wheel - the windscreen has to start from scratch. One of the links mentioned a split- screen with pillars which sounds good. Joe.

Gentlemen, my sincere thanks to you all for the help and advice and we are now engrossed in a forum or two on the subject and learning by the day. The new boatowner was allowed a little tidy up and power wash of his craft at the weekend, even though our 'winter project' still has a bit to go. Despite a few little rough edges ( human nature !) the IWAI forum will always come up with the friendly advice needed and very quickly at that. Hopefully the " Saro Terrapin" of around 1960 vintage will again sail proud, thanks again, Joe.
Hi Fergal, there is a 25hp Johnson in the pipeline which should be enough to make it fun but not a big strain on fuel. He would fancy one of those old chrome topped mercs, but maybe in time ! The hull is in great condition which makes me think it was un-used for a long time. Plan is to get it on the water soon enough and keep on the lookout for the chrome bits etc. etc. Joe.
