Well done Vossie, and I hope your back doesn't hurt too much. You were of course asking people along the way if they were missing a kitten, wern't you ? BTW your site is a credit to you and I often refer people.
Work the route out - Shannon Harbour for Christmas could be nice ! Go on, just do it.

Joe.

Very enjoyable again.

There is something about your above photo titles that reminds me of Rupert
Bear stories. I keep expecting to see a rhyming couplet beneath them !

Don't quite get the reference to Skew Country Estate ??

Thanks Paul,

I'm trying to keep the posts and captions light-hearted...

The reference is related to the crosses set in the gate pillars... sort of a subliminal moment on my part... please forgive my erroniouse ways... grinning smiley

Cheers for now,

After all the ditty's were said
and the new posts read
After the sailors were fed
and the kids put to bed...

Aaaah... I'm no good at the poetry bit...
What I'm good at is getting confused
keeping the candle at both ends lit
as long as I'm trying to stay amused

Off to the harbour to see
what the long level's level could be
now it's the place for you and me
cos the Rambler's again been set free

So, I walked to the Shannon
Well... that's what I thought
confused, mind like a melon
just as well the camera I brought!

On to 46 at Cloondra
at the other end of the canal
Richmond is oh so far
Or... is that Enfield I know so well?

Sorrrrryyy all... Mick's ditty-ing has got a hold of me! moody smiley

This was the sight that met me at Enfield Harbour this afternoon... maybe now you understand my total confusion... and mirth...
I promise to update the blog with the last section of the walk to Richmond by midweek... next week, that is!
Until then... why don't you go and have a look-see at some of my other posts... Enfield Harbour has featured quite heavily as of late... grinning smiley

Cheers for now,
AJ aka Vossie

Hi All,

I've eventually managed to get the final post of the walk to Richmond Harbour completed... at long last!

The blog software has changed slightly so the gallery displays differently... I hope you enjoy the post...

Thanks again for all your support,

Congratulations A J and well done. There are hours of reading and I highly reccomend it. Your next step is over to Edenderry and turn left or right. Don't let Winter stop you - go for it !

Well done Vossie. I enjoyed the photos and blog. Are you a fungus expert? I hate walking past all those lovely. mushrooms knowing that some are edible.
A lot of the Boyne Canal from Navan to Drogheda is walkable too.

BTW,you must be as fit as a fiddle.

Hi PJ

I'm an exile from Navan currently ag cur fúm sa Gaeltacht, sa Rinn, and I used to do a lovely walk out the ramparts and then back in the railway when I was younger. I could never figure out how to walk beyond Broadboyne Bridge though, and because the canal criss-crossed the Boyne between there and Slane I always assumed the towpath wasn’t continuous. Is there a walk (re)opened now, or is that stretch still out of bounds ?

Cathal,I picked up a book lately called Towpath Tours by John Dunne c2005. I'm sure you'd find a copy if you tried.
According to him ,you stay on the south side of the river.Access down by the old mills and into Beauparc Estate. Keep to the path by the river and you should be ok.
I haven't tried it yet. I'll probaly wait until Spring.

Good man Vossie. An excellent reminder that IWAI is'nt just a "boaters" club. (I do hope you are a member, BTW). All one needs is a love of being out and about and getting something from that "babbling brook" that says or does something for YOU. I'd lay money (if I had any) that more people derived pleasure from our various waterways this year from non boaty means than from boats....!!

Hi All,

Santi arrived in Kilcock last night. So, what's special about that? Santi arrives all over the world at this time of the year. Well, pray tell... how often is the fellow escorted into town on board a luxury liner? He made quite an entrance... in the capable hands of Blackthorn and her family!

The quality of the photos aren't great... as they say in the classics... you gets what you pays! moody smiley The turnout was fantastic! Thanks to Blackthorn and the Clintons!

Chatting with Blackthorn's folk last evening prompted me to again read about her journey from the Shannon to Lock 15... it's a great read so why not go and remind yourself again...

PS - I hope this post goes up... problems with the net! I'll do an edit later... winking smiley I'll also do a blog post later in the week...

It was a pretty magical experience, and the crowd was huge!
Here's a few pictures from onboard on the way down and arriving.

Hi Vossie,

just to keep you up - dated, do you remember that persistent kitten [ Abi from Abbeyshrule !]

well, as you can see she has grown up a bit and like day one on 4E , continues to feel at home.

Joe.

Hi All,

Thanks to all that have left good messages about my Royal Canal post in the IWN... it is my first ever print article so I'm rather chuffed...

For those that aren't fortunate enough to get the magazine... I've placed a copy on the blog as well...

Thanks again for all your support,

Hi All,

Can anyone shed some light please? Is Lock 13 on the Royal Canal haunted?

I've done a short piece over on the blog today...

Cheers for now

Morning AJ,

I do believe the haunted lock 13 is on the Grand Canal,

Joe.
