Hi Folk's,

Just wondering if anyone had info regarding the H&S upgrades to the dry dock. Is it available, summer is nearly upon us and it's time to be thinking about anti-fouling.

Mike.

The closed dock is in use. Fine for small boats like yours.

There is a barge,Jarra,in there at the mo.

Why don't you bring her round to Dollymount or Sandymount and beach her to paint her?

Hi PJ,

It's a long way from Galway to Dollymount.

I'll have to change my login name.

regards,
Mike Farrell

Mike, Apologies, I mixed you up with that no good Mick F. Now how did i do that?

Sure I don't know what boat you have. I'd say the Jarra might be in the covered dock for a while. She's being sandblasted. After that They'll patch any holes and paint her.
No sign of WI starting work on the other dock. They have indicated that it's in the works.

Anyhow ,who is Mike Farrell? Tell us about yourself. There are lots of Farrells in East Galway ,where I'm from.

Cheers,

Pj

Hi PJ,

Mike is no poet and I know it.

Born and bread in the city. Fell in love with boats after watching Dick travelling along the Grand on TV a number of years ago. Eventually got the chance to purchase and have progressed to a 35ft Broom. Most enjoyed post to date would have be the Frogs voyage with all the pic's around the south coast. Can't wait to try the royal, looks fantastic.

I went for a spin up to SH today, very quiet up there. I noticed a lovely statue of Johnny Mc Evoy in Banagher just at the entrance into Silverline, amazing what can be done to the stump of a tree, well worth stopping to have a look.

regards,
Mike with a K Farrell.

Well done Mike with a K.

I was in Banagher last year when a large branch literally fell off the tree. A few people were very lucky.
I noticed the carving the other day but didn't stop. Must do so next time.
Cheers,PJN

Ehhhh.....should that not really be Mike with an E....??

Mick.....also with a K, but no E....!!

Are you planning on doing the Royal this year Mike...?? I thought that statue was of Jim Murray.

Correct MicKK,

Nothing gets past you even on the forum. The statue was viewed from the warmth of my car, I was told by my co-pilot it was of J Mc Evoy. Who is was Jim Murray, I maybe showing my age by not knowing this, anyway amazing sight no matter what the name.

I would love to do the royal starting from SH going east and coming back via main system. I'll have to wait for the school holidays before setting off, and get the buy in of my three daughters and my beautiful co-pilot. I have three weeks to play with, I assume that would be plenty of time??

Ehhhh.....up the Grand to Dublin and back the Royal to the Richmond Hbr....??? Three weeks should be enough but you will have to factor in Effin bridge in your calculations. It'll only be opened once a month to let boats through.

M(W&W)F

PS....Never seen the statue, nor met Johnny Mac Evoy, but I have seen Jim Murray play guitar....LOL
PPS....Would you like to meet Jim...?? Have you any spare beds aboard...??

Hi Mick,

If Jim Murray can play like Don Felder or Steve Morse he's welcome aboard anytime.

Mike.

Oh Mike, Jim is a member of the northern contingent of DeBand, and is really well known on the river. He even comes on this forum, so I won't answer for him, but maybe he might himself.

I'll be in SH around April time to get the machine surveyed, so look out for me.

The word from the Harbour is that the works on the outside dock are near complete
P.J. its time to start the old engine and get ready to move the old rust bucket

Aisy down lads,

Not knowing Don and Steve personally, I googled them to find they're mere Heavy Metal legends. They fall at first fence - FAR too much heavy metal on this here river.

My little machine is accoustic, with not a plug in sight - can be played on a row-boat in the middle of L. Ree.......if I'm to be brutally honest, most of my river "friends" would prefer me to do just that - on my own.

The last things you can be around here are SENSITIVE or HUMBLE. But a rendition of Banagher has them eating out of my hand and asking me for autographs and can they give me a bunk for the night - they and the wife'll move out to the wheelhouse.

Mick/Mike/Michael Farrell :- This name is becoming epidemic! The third a one is a lovely medical man and genuine boaty freak, whose father was immortalised on the Shannon Rally with the Doc. Farrell trophy, still awarded yearly. In rallies in the late '60s the original Doc. was a one-man hospital for
all our injuries/illnesses/hangovers. The son hangs out with Sean Hanahoe, Michael Brody etc. around Carrick. Met him only yesterday at a "football" match in Donnybrook.

Enough, enough; better get back to practising the additions to my repertoire for the 2012 season:

The Dimming of the Day

Garden Valley

Angels

Messrs. Felder and Morse - eat your hearts out.

Hate when a topic so diversifies as to be unrecognisable from the original; so here's a new (short-lived) one:-
