Sundowner and beal na blath Posted by Donal Flynn
Well brought her for first spin today and went very well , she seems to handle well, managed to turn her without problem at footies bridge and again at the lift bridge , water level good and only hit one clump of weed, beauty of this time of year. Mc neads br no prob except for a gust that sent me veering starboard , thank god for well positioned fenders! Very satisfying run! Now to stray further! Again hope to head to coolnahay on April 29th following the walkers on my mums walk !
Sundowner had it's first voyage to Mullingar Sunday before last but turned into an 8 hour return journey! This was due to a leak from oil cooler , we had to top up the oil every 750 1000 mtrs great sport ! And catch it in a basin so it didn't contaminate our bilge. I removed offending part and brought it to an engineer outside Mullingar who tig welded it and re machined it. So sun gone by family popped on board and had a lovely trouble free run to Mullingar and back only took 5 hrs including picnic and lift bridge. Water level down 5/6 inches but not too bad , look out for stones Mullingar side mc kneadsbridge and also Dublin bridge to pipers boreen especially vessels with draft of over 3ft. Plastic bag alley clear apart from 3 fertiliser bags we removed! Weed not bad at moment. And two lovely donkeys at the downs bridge! Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
