I think it was parrafin that was blue. Never heard of blue diesel.
I hear diesel is in short supply worldwide and may shortly be dearer than petrol.

Rig your barge for sail NOW PJ, while there's still time...

There is no such thing as "Bio free diesel" as from 01/01/2011. Due to the usual bungling and meddling bunch of do-gooders that they are the european union mandarins who routinely exercise soverignity over everyone, everything and everywhere in Ireland (North and South), these european masters of the universe have decreed that we must use biodiesel. As usual, our weak self serving local political people simply tug their forelocks, bow down and say in a polite compliant voice of unison, "yes master" Contrast the differences in France, also a fully paid up member of the european union, but when it came to european union interference on the French canals, it didn't take too many seconds for the French political delegate/s to politely tell the EU where to stick their daft rulebook. And there wasn't another word about it, but until we see a new breed of politician quite unlike the CE marked ones we've currently cough up for every pay day, then you are stuck with it my friends. You will just have to get used to being treated like &^£%%$. Any of out there who run your own businesses will know all about it. It is also only a matter of time (in my opinion) until something along the lines of a boat MOT/NCT type annual test is enforced, maybe something like the "boat safety scheme" in UK mainland. The EU just cannot get enough rules. However, it has been already proved that they can be told where to get off, but alas, weakkneed yes men career politicians won't make it happen. It requires politicians AKA the French, who put country first the people second and themselves way down the list. Could it happen in Ireland ?, Not a chance!!.

Thanks Mick but tragically I went for the petrol Porsche.
The salesman said no-one was buying the diesel version.

When I use up my 40l of road diesel (prob not in 2012 :-) ) I'll refill with Shannon Sailing marked diesel...

John

Siphon it out and stick it in your car John (assuming it's diesel) and replace it with Green Diesel

Some of you seem to think I am joking reference "blue diesel". This is not a joke, it has nothing whatso ever to do with brand names (esso blue etc), as some clearly think I meant. I'm a little surprised that all you informed boaters do not know about the blue diesel, and indeed the penalties involved if you were to be caught in possession of same. It.s especially ironic since the waters adjacent to Enniskillen Ulsterbus depot (Hint hint) were heavily polluted by a huge spill of blue diesel from the same bus depot yard not so very long ago. Yes all ulsterbus vehicles are fuelled with their own specifically dyed blue diesel, in order to prevent/detect management/employee theft from the company. the quantities used must surely be vast, so it is understandable that they may not notice the loss of the odd few thousand litres. So, special blue diesel is the answer. Now you all know.

Never heard of anyone dyeing their diesel before Robert, but I suppose there is a certain logic to it. What happens if you mix it with green or red diesel though...??

No idea what it turns out like mixed with red green etc. I do know that red and green mixed looks blackish and you would think looking at it, that it was contaminted with dirt or something, but of course it is quite ok to use.
