And so it all begings again! For those of you still interested in my travels... it's time to get the Grand Canal thread underway. Today's post over on the blog includs a large GCD gallery... I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed walking it and putting together the post... Thanks to a certain Mr J Treacey... this canal quest I can now complete with guide in hand! Cheers, have fun! AJ aka Vossie ![]() [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com] PS - The post may contain a few small errors... I'll correct them as time allows...
Hi All, I managed to do the Circular Line up to the 12th Lock on Saturday. I'll soon be doing a few posts on that stroll but for now I'm being bold and asking a question or two... Is there, maybe just maybe, someone out there with an old (ish) but servicable outboard that's not in use but may looking for a boat to do the G&S? Read more on my blog post today... Cheers for now, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, I've posted the Circular Line walk I completed some weeks ago... have a look, I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed walking!! Cheers for now, AJ aka Vossie ![]() [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, This thread has been lying dormant for quite some time now... but, drat... now you're going to be subjected to my harrassment again... today I restart the walk... in aid of the Midlands SIMON community... Please have a read over on the blog... Cheers, AJ aka Vossie... him of the soon to have sore legs... again! ![]() [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, The quest is on! Yes, I eventually got a move on on Saturday... as planned. It wasn't one of the best walking days I've had but then... there's a bit of a reason for the walk so no complaints. I've put up a few photo's today... Cheers, Vossie aka AJ ![]() [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com] PS - Please read both today's and yesterday's posts if you need a reminder of why I'm doing the walk...
Hi All, Thursday saw me strolling from the 12th Lock to just beyond the Leinster Aqueduct. The weather was fantastic so I really let rip with the camera. Also had the good fortune of catching 5 boats in action around the 13th Lock. I plan to walk again on Monday... all things considered. I need to get as close as possible to the Offaly border so we can actually start promoting the Midlands Simon charity aspect of the walk on the subsequent walks. See you along the Grand! Cheers, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, I've included quite a gallery in today's post... even had time to include captions this time... The walking is going well, another 20 KMs out of the way. As things stand at this stage I should be heading into Offaly on Sunday... hopefully we can then start promoting the Midlands SIMON more actively... Cheers for now, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi Again, I've posted the 4th leg of the walk... from Lock 20 west of Ticknevin up to just beyond the Bord na Mona lifting bridge west of Rhode Bridge... I've changed the format slightly... so as not to bore the living daylights out of you. I'm tentatively planning the next walk for Sunday... Cheers, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, The walk has progressed well... I've reached Tullamore... pity I couldn't find a free supply of the famous stuff they brew there... but then, I'm dreaming. The charity page is doing rather well, as well. We've almost managed to collect €500... the original target, so we've pushed the bar up a few notches. Cheers for now, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi Again, Last Sunday saw me return to Tullamore... the penultimate leg of my Grand Canal Challenge... I walked from Lock 25 to Pollagh Village... this time armed with fliers to assist with the fundraising cause... The amount raised is past € 650 now... please consider helping, if you have not already done so... Thanks... Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, I'll hopefully be walking the last leg of my Grand Canal Challenge for Midlands SIMON tomorrow. I'm rather chuffed to say we've passed the € 1000 mark... I include the link so you can have a look or donate, please? [www.mycharity.ie] Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to catch one or two of you along the way but if I don't I do need to say I've really enjoyed the Grand Canal to date... you can read my account of the walks so far on the Grand Canal page... Thanks again for all your support... I'll soon only have to find a way from Shannon Harbour to Richmond Harbour... any ideas or tips on best areas to walk would be very welcome! Cheers for now, Vossie aka AJ [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, I've made it to the end of the Grand Canal... and even a few hundred meters further to the Shannon. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Grand Canal quest! It wasn't always dry, but then, who cares... this is Ireland after all! To date we have raised more than €1100 for Midlands SIMON. Mostly though, we have raised the awareness levels of the good work carried out by the organisation. I would still like to complete my G&S walk so the section from Shannon Harbour to Richmond Harbour needs to be tackled... any tips or suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks again for all your support... please feel free to have a look at the charity page... it will remain open for a while yet. Cheers, Vossie [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com]
Hi All, I've been rather slow to place anything here for some time. This morning I found a few very enthusiastic folk along the Circular Line... I promised I'd join then next month... Let the fun begin!! Cheers for now, AJ aka Vossie [ouchmybackhurts.wordpress.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. Online UsersGuests within the past 30 minutes:
