Just a little reminder about the royal canal walk being organised for April 29th only 18 days to go ! Should be a good day. Sadly it looks like due to the summit level being so low sundowner and other boats will be unable to navigate the stretch unless things improve dramatically before then. Those disgruntled by the level of summit remember that this walk is being opened by the MINISTER MICHAEL RING could raise a few issues with him hint hint ! If things haven't improved and at least if they haven't it will be obvious to him that the very thing his office is promoting is in trouble. Donal
A great disapointment I'm sure Donal. We have the Innaugural Ashtown Canal Festival, right beside WI's Eastern Regional HQ at Lock 10, on the 28th April. Unfortunately most of the boats due to be attending have been stopped by the closure on the other side of the summit. I've no idea as yet who's supposed to be there on the day, but I do hope the 3 TD's who waited for hours and hours last May 21st, when Effin Bridge did'nt lift, will be there again. Fair play to RCAG's Noel Spaine who brought down the trays of sandwiches to Spencer later that night. 40 years of working for the re-opening, but the look of dis-apointment on his face that night would near kill ya. Best I can suggest is to get the Canoe Polo boyo's from Mullingar to accompany the walk. Had a quick game with them last July and I passing through and there's probably enough depth left for them to travel. Other option might be to get the walkers to wear wellies and walk the actual canal, rather than the horse walk....!! M(W&W)F Noel Spaine (L)...40 years pulling rubbish from the Royal...!!
