Here is the link to our latest ezine.
Boats will not be able to pass through Victoria Lock from the 13th July for a period of about 20 weeks due to repairs being carried out.
The Newry and Portadown IWAI was awarded the “Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services” in today’s honours list.
It’s a marvellous recognition of the hard work that branch members have put in to various projects.
This is the highest award a group can gain in the UK and is the equivalent of an MBE.
And the assessment for this award was made before the new gates were even started!!
And also before the Sluice Keeper’s Interpretive Centre was opened !!!!
And before the “Newry Canal Towpath Tour app” was published !!!!
Well done to all our branch members.
The Sluice keeper’s cottage is now officially open as a canal interpretive centre.
It is midway between Poyntzpass and Scarva beside the towpath opposite Acton Lake/ Lough Shark.
IWAI volunteers are manning the building and it’s open Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 4.00pm.
Call in to learn more about the important heritage value of the Newry to Portadown Canal and the work that the IWAI are doing to re-open it.
On Friday we will be going to Poyntzpass first at 10.00am and then on to Campbells to get the Gate heel sockets cleaned out and checked over.
Bring your wellis or waders.
