IWAI Heritage & Conservation CommitteeDuring the coming year 2005/06 the IWAI Heritage & Conservation Committee will aim to complete the Heritage Council, Waterways Built Heritage Survey, at least the ground work and complete the web and CD format by early 2006 (still working on that!). Book format will follow. The Committee will also be rebuilding and making new contacts with all local authorities and other heritage & conservation groups. We will also be contacting all IWAI branches, to get than to appoint a heritage rep. who will work locally, and report back to the committee. The long term plan, if I survive 12 months will be to visit each IWAI branch, local authority and other heritage & conservation groups. My aim is to build the Committee to work with outside groups to benefit the Waterways, and to get the point across that we as the IWAI need to be informed about developments on out waterways. This will include developing our contacts within the Heritage Council, we need to get recognition. Currently this committee has two members from the North of Ireland which gives us coverage for most of the country; I want to expand this to an international level so that we gain from the knowledge of others. This may be for a better man than I, and is a real long term plan. The committee has lost two of its members, Mike and Rosaleen Miller, which leaves vacancies, the committee is looking for two willing to work volunteers, to sit on the committee. We also need workers, especially to finish the survey, I cannot survey the Shannon myself, and I need people to do it. If you are willing please contact a committee member. Finally if anybody has ideas, projects etc. for the committee, or would like to help with our survey, please contact us. Niall R. Galway
