system, and the entire Shannon system as far south as Killaloe - essentially all
of the waterways covered by the

map. However, some barges are not

1 Wide Beam
4 Berth 'Scˇal Eile'
Operators Comments: Dublin Barge Hire is Dublin City Centre's first self
catering cruising barge. The barge 'Scˇal Eile' is a new and exciting form
of accommodation in Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2. Not only is this an
exclusive and unique place to stay, the barge is a form of transport as
well. After 1 hour personal instruction on how to drive, moor and navigate
a barge through a lock, you the guest can drive your very own barge. Guests
will have access to the secure and serviced Marina in Grand Canal Dock and
from here you can navigate through 7 locks up to Portobello. It is a 4
hour round trip. This historic stretch of canal was originally opened in
1796 so why not enjoy the freedom of moving the barge up and down the
canal, personally navigating our 200 year old locks.
'Scˇal Eile', a 50 x 10 foot (15 x 3.1m) barge was built in 2006 to a high
specification. It's warm inviting interior and its comfortable living space
make this self-catering barge an ideal environment for a holiday break.
