Friends of the Ulster Canal Appeal
For some time now, IWAI has been running a campaign for the restoration of
the Ulster Canal (see here). For
info on the Ulster Canal, see here.
We have reached the stage where we believe that the best approach is to set
up a separate body to take the restoration campaign forward. We want to attract
the help and support of local communities, development groups, local authorities
and state agencies and we believe that this can be best done by establishing a
separate body, closely allied to IWAI (with the working title of the ULSTER
CANAL TRUST) to address the views of all the stakeholders. Work to establish
that body has already begun.
In the meantime, we need to raise some funds to support the ongoing work and
we are appealing to IWAI members and the general public to donate £10.00 /
€15.00 (or more if you can afford it) to a fund which we are calling the
Friends of the Ulster Canal.
We are also trying to compile a list of people interested in helping out on
this project by:
(a) becoming a member of the Ulster Canal Trust when we get it established
(b) helping out at work parties and clean-ups
(c) helping out with other work such as fund raising, administration,
publications etc.
If you send us a donation and check any of the boxes on the
form, we will send you occasional updates
telling you what is going on, invite you to become a member of the Ulster Canal
Trust and probably ask you for more money at some point !
