Carrick AGM takes place on Saturday 3rd November

To all IWAI Carrick members

As previously advised the Carrick AGM takes place on Saturday 3rd November
at 3pm*. We hope you can join us for a catch up on all the happenings in
2018 and gather for some refreshments afterwards.
It would really help with organization the event if you could confirm if
you are able to attend on the day. If you have any agenda items please do
let us know in advance.

We would also welcome new members to join our branch committee so do raise
your hand on the day, or again let us know in advance, it you wish to put
your name forward.

October Cruise in Company Itinerary

Due to unforeseen circumstances the original organisers of the end of season CIC, Tara and Seán, had to drop out and so our leader, Jean, has decided to do the honours herself! By that it is meant she will delegate everything  to Frank!! Who will, in turn, delegate some tasks to anyone who stands still long enough and doesn’t step backwards fast enough when volunteers are sought!!

In consultation with the branch executive, and a straw poll of the members who usually show up at the event, a few changes have been made and it is hoped that these may freshen things up. These changes may or may not work but it is worth the experiment. Feedback  (play nice!!) afterwards will be gratefully received and acted upon.

The big change is the timing. That is, it being brought forward to the start of October (w/e of 12th, 13th and 14th). It is felt that the weather will be more likely to be slightly warmer and the days slightly longer. Originally it was hoped to bring it further forward but circumstances intervened.

Events will start on the Friday with a slightly earlier get together in the Cryan’s Hotel Bar. There will be finger food, some games and music.

On Saturday morning, in the viewing room at the St. George’s  Centre, we will be regaled by a local historian, who will hopefully entertain and educate us  in equal measures about the Carrick area with a particular bent towards the waterways. There will also be a tour of the old workhouse and cemetery. It is envisaged that we will split into 2 groups and alternate between both sites.

The fleet will leave their respective moorings on Saturday. First stop will be Cootehall and Henry’s Bar for the pool and darts competitions (around 14.00 – 14.30).

Then on to Paddy Gilboy’s. A meal will be available on Saturday evening after  which there will be entertainment.

A pub quiz – sort of! – will take place during the meal.

Sunday morning – homeward bound at your leisure!

Carrick Cares Day next Saturday 25th August in Lough Key Forest Park

Carrick Cares Day takes place next Saturday 25th August in Lough Key Forest Park from 12.00p.m. until 5.00 p.m. Thank you so much to all the volunteers from both Iwai Carrick and other IWAI branches who will be helping us on the day. We couldn’t run the day without you. All volunteers should have received detailed information of the day by now – so don’t forget to check your emails and touch base with Catherine Cashman if you have any questions.

Get the Child of Prague out to ensure good weather!
