We continue to advise all members to heed the advice from the relevant authorities and to follow the public health guidance as determined by the governments in both jurisdictions.

The Department of Health is leading the government response in Ireland to COVID-19 and are providing up to date information and advice on it’s website at

With the entire country now at Level 5 Waterways Ireland has issued Marine Notice #104/20 which can be accessed at

All locks and service blocks are now closed and the navigations are only open within 5Km of your home (ROI only). Towpaths remain open for essential exercise close to your home.

Executive strongly encourage and advise our members to stay at home as much as possible. Travel is only permitted for essential work or education purposes or to provide essential care. Indoor or garden visits are not permitted but you can meet with one other household for essential exercise within 5Km of your home.

Continue to pay particular attention to correct hand hygiene, cleaning of surfaces, cough/sneeze etiquette and physical distancing (social distancing) – keeping 2m between yourself and anyone not living in the same house / flat / boat as you.

Branches can only meet using technology e.g. skype/zoom meetings, conference calls, email discussions, WhatsApp

All IWAI organised events remain postponed, including work parties.

If you are feeling unwell, with a fever and/or cough, self-isolate in one room of your home if possible and phone your GP.
