Well done Mick!

Great blog and photos - will be following in your footsteps in the spring. Really looking forward to the trip and seeing the Royal part of the G&S route, for the first time.

Not as far fetched as you might think Vossie....sometime between the 26th and 31st December could very well suit. I'll be in touch...!!

Fair play and well done Mick. A great informative and entertaining blog, I never thought I'd be looking forward to the "next installment" of a blog on a canal trip. Each update was anticipated nearly(I said"nearly" Colin.....) as much as each copy of the IWN dropping through the letterbox !
It's been a great Summer of story telling of various trips and as a famous Frog would say, it really is a "broad Church" including walkers, coastal trips, canal trips, river navigations, powerboat trips and lots of other adventurers.
Not sure how we will manage over the Winter, I will be expecting the "withdrawal symptoms" to be setting in soon if I don't get my daily "forum fix". Now there must be some "Winter project" taking place somewhere that would make a good "blog-series...."

And to mark the occasion, the "Micks" sub-committee of the Dublin Branch went a boating on the Grand Canal today ...

and presented Mick with a real plaque, no. 31B, in very appropriate company this afternoon.

and here's a repeat of Mick's Green & Silver poem
The Quest for Rolt's Lost Treasure

Come all you lads and lassies,
From Belturbet to Beleek,
From the Shannon's side to the Barrow's tide,
There's treasure for to seek,
There's Green and Silver to be won,
Across the Mucky Mer,
O'er Grand and Royal, you'll have to toil,
If you want to claim your share.

Some hardships you'll encounter,
No shore power to be had,
Your gin and tonic's full of weed,
And your wine and cheese gone bad,
But persevere as you push those gates,
As you sweat upon the rack,
At the end of the day, there'll be time for play,
And time to have some craic.

And as you slowly navigate,
Watching walker's moving faster,
You'll start to think that you were mad,
To embark on this disaster,
But moving slowly gives you time,
To ponder your surrounds,
The man made ditch, that nature switched,
Into a Holy Ground.

Now Long John Slevin weaves his web,
Upon the world wide thingy,
To lure you all out on this quest,
By boat or barge or dingy,
Then Popeye Kinahan will strike,
Beware of him he's shifty,
"A rally fee, you'll pay to me,
Or you won't pass th' M-50".

So you've finally travelled in Rolt's wake,
Now you can claim your prize,
As you look down at your wee small hoard,
You won't believe your eyes,
And you'll ask if it was worth it ?
But if the truth be told,
It's the Green & Silver in your head,
That's worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks lads (and P Kavanagh). The Dubhlinn was heading up to Inchicore for another Dublin Branch Gig tomorrow. We were asked to provide some boaty interest at the launch of a couple of new walking routes (Sli Na Slainte) in Camac Park and on the towpaths between Locks 3 and 2 on the Grand. I wont be there meself (HBA AGM) but Mick Kinahan and Michael Slevin will be on duty from about 10 AM. Well done guys...!!

M(W&W)F

PS....Sorry for the pics but I dont have a big camera like Conor or Michael...!!

Mick Kinahan picks me up outside the "house"

Michael Slevin...out from behind the camera.

Herding Swans...there must be between 60 and 80 above Portobello

Hi Mick,

Well Tina,

Some were too low and others were too shallow and one even refused to co-opperate for a whole month. But you eye them up, see where the problem is and then work out how to conquer it....!!!

Beth,

You will enjoy it, as will all the Leinster Mills G&S'ers. Do say "Hi" to Pauline and Brendan for me, if you happen to see them...!!
