As part of the National strategy, the Greenways along the canals are at different stages of development.
Work on the 144km of Royal Canal Greenway from Dublin, through Kildare, Meath and Westmeath is nearing completion and is due to open fully later in 2019.
The section along the Grand Canal Main Line in Kildare is at the planning stage with Kildare County Council.
Great progress has occurred on the Offaly Greenway in recent months, with the section from Edenderry to Pullough complete. Money has just been allocated for a new path from the Grand Canal at Ballycommon to the Royal Canal Greenway at Campbell’s Bridge, Kilbeggan and for the extension of the section from Pullough to the Lough Boora Discovery Park on the Grand Canal.
