IWAI's burgee is green and silver - inspired by the book of the same name. Wear it with pride and promote the association. Many IWAI boats also fly the defaced Ensign from the stern of the boat.
  • This striking burgee signifies that you have passed the IWAI/ISA Certificate of Competency for Motor Cruising on Inland Waterways. Appropriate Certificate must be supplied with order - this can be done by snail mail or the cert may be scanned/photographed and sent to memsupplies@iwai.ie Unfortunately we can only accept the IWAI/ISA Certificate of Competency for Motor Cruising on Inland Waterways for this burgee. There is a list of training providers on the training pages of the website and for those with adequate experience, it is possible to obtain the certificate by "direct assessment" rather than doing the full course.
  • There has been debate over the years as to the correct way to fly the Erne Flag. Some argue "Green to the ground and blue to the sky". However the accepted way is for the green stripe to be on top representing the land and the blue on the bottom representing the water. As the source of the Erne is in the Republic of Ireland with the main loughs in Northern Ireland, a more cynical interpretation is that the flag was designed to not offend anybody in that it is neither green/white/orange or red/white/blue!!! This flag is constructed of woven polyester and is approximately 24" x 36". Its designed to be flown green uppermost but you can fly it the other way if you wish ! Generally flown from the stern of the boat.
