  • This 1:25000 map, on water resistant paper, shows Lough Erne and its surrounding hinterland on an 840mm x 1230mm (approx) sheet with the Upper Lough on one side and the Lower Lough on the other. The map shows full details of the lakes and all the navigation marks and features including jetties and landing places. It also has spot depths and submarine contours along with the normal full detail you would expect on an OS map on land. The map folds down to approx 140mm x 210mm and is presented in a protective plastic sleeve.

    The Guide outlines the navigational features and attractions of the Lower Barrow, Nore & Suir Rivers from Graiguenamanagh, Inistioge and Carrick on Suir to Waterford Estuary with Hook Lighthouse on the eastern headland and Dunmore East on the western. The guide is compatible with the Guide to the River Barrow 2012 (Item C06) which details the upper River Barrow and the Grand Canal connection to Lowtown. This publication is a Rising Tide outcome (an Ireland/Wales INTERREG 4A Maritime Heritage project, which also supported the boat building and community festivals with the John F Kennedy Trust, New Ross Town Council and Kilkenny Leader Partnership). The information has been sourced from the Barrow Guide, Waterways Ireland, the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, A Guide to Carrick on Suir, and following a consultation process with river users and site visits.

The Guide also includes stories of those who lived and worked along the Canal while also looking to the future containing information on the plans for restoration and the vision to reopen the entire navigation once again.
